The large parish festival on Orzeszkowej Street was financed by the people. They donated items, baked cakes, performed on stage and paid for everything while watching an Arab fertility dance, which Hollywood filmmakers turned into an erotic dance, and which left-wing Europe regards as an expression of women’s liberation and self-acceptance. Jesus watched it all from an image on the stage.
Collecting money for the church from parishioners is becoming increasingly difficult in Poland. Above all, people are barely coping with inflation and increases in electricity, gas and fuel prices. That is why the church has become so closely aligned with the ruling party. It is easier to obtain money from the state, and it is guaranteed cash, while citizens cannot protest.
Extracting a tithe from people for the church in the 21st century is nevertheless an achievement deserving great applause. That is precisely what the festival serves. It was financed entirely by parishioners and donors. At the festival, the same parishioners spend the money. Everything goes into the pockets of, well, you know who... (it is supposed to go to the church).
Councillor Molak has gained popularity and votes in elections for his services, and perhaps a chance at a vacancy in a state-owned company. We have already had a councillor who rose to prominence by supporting the church on Zamkowy Square. We followed his trial for abusing a female employee. For now, Councillor Molak is merely staying afloat as a Law and Justice satellite, because for several years the residents of Bolesławiec have not wanted to be so impulsiveas to replace the mayor with the councillor’s club colleague.
When a reader sent us a photograph from the parish festival and asked whether belly dancing was in fact Arab dancing, suggesting that this Arab dance somehow did not fit with Jesus in the image hung on the stage, we can reply that this is not the point. We can, however, congratulate him on his perceptiveness. The parishioners had to be attracted by something so that they would be generous and somehow make up for the losses the pandemic and church closures caused the priests. After all, they have to live on something and put something in the car. Reading a single book, even a sacred one, and repeating formulas and rituals seven days a month is not productive in itself. Even fortune-tellers charge a fee for laying out tarot cards or looking into a crystal ball.
Donated items, food and attractive dancers will obviously draw crowds, and crowds bring wallets. The fact that belly dancing is stereotypically perceived as an erotic dance intended to arouse the senses, something that does not need to be proven to any heterosexual man, will somehow be swallowed. As long as Jesus is not given a six-colour flag to hold. Because through systematic work, the Church in Poland has placed into the image of that flag everything present in the erotic dance of women with bare stomachs: uninhibited sexuality, sensuality and admiration for another person’s body. Yet the Church instilled hostility and contempt for the rainbow flag in its faithful in order to create an alternative way of collecting a tithe. Once the faithful no longer want to pay the Church by attending large festivals, perhaps they will pay to be protected from the rainbow plague.
