In the presence of Vice-Consul Anna Majda and Father Sławomir Klim, a delegation of soldiers from the 10th Armored Cavalry Brigade—headed by its commander, Col. Grzegorz Barabieda—travelled through the French regions of Champagne and Burgundy, from Champaubert to Saint-Seine-I’Abbaye.
On June 15, wreaths were laid at the monument in Champaubert commemorating the soldiers of General Maczek who fell in the fighting. Meetings were then held with the honorary consul from Troyes and a representative of the French military from the Aube department.
On the morning of June 16, a candle was lit at the graves of three Polish soldiers who paid the ultimate price in the fighting in Molesme. The next item on the programme was a solemn ceremony at the cemetery in Montbard. The armored soldiers said: — Exactly 82 years ago, on June 16, 1940, the 10th Armored Cavalry Brigade received orders to capture the town.
The soldiers added: — In the company of local authorities and representatives of associations, the bravery and sacrifice of the Polish armored soldiers were commemorated. After a joint prayer and speeches at the monument to the 13 Polish soldiers who fell in the fighting, tribute was paid and wreaths were laid.
The return to the battle trail was a joint initiative of the Świętoszów-based brigade and the Association of the 1st Polish Armored Division in France, represented by brigade enthusiast Jakub Wiącek.
