The incident occurred on Sunday, April 24, in one of the apartments on Kubika Street in Bolesławiec. Emergency medical responders transported a woman who felt unwell to hospital.
Because carbon monoxide poisoning was suspected, emergency services, including the fire brigade, were dispatched to the scene again. After inspecting the apartment, carbon monoxide was detected leaking from the fireplace. The fireplace was extinguished, while the apartment was ventilated and checked again.
Together with the fire brigade, we appeal to residents to ensure that heating systems and their technical condition, including chimney installations, are properly maintained. Inspection deadlines should also be observed. It is also worth purchasing a carbon monoxide detector. The device can save lives.
*At an average concentration of 400 ppm, a severe headache appears after approximately two hours, while life is simultaneously at risk. When the carbon monoxide concentration in a room reaches approximately 800 ppm, nausea, dizziness and vomiting occur, and after 45 minutes a person may fall into a coma. Death follows after 2–3 hours.
