The incident occurred on 21 April at kilometre 156 of the A4 motorway. Inspectors from Wrocław stopped a vehicle combination for inspection. It was transporting two new cars from Poland to Germany. Road Transport Inspection:

During the inspection, it turned out that the tachograph installed in the motor vehicle had not had a valid periodic inspection for almost two years, while the vehicle’s tyres should have been replaced long ago. The technical inspection also revealed a fault in the vehicle’s lighting.

In a conversation with the Wrocław Road Transport Inspection officers, the driver stressed that he did not dispute the inspection findings but was surprised by the results. He had rented the vehicle from a professional rental company to carry out an urgent transport operation, and therefore assumed that the vehicle was roadworthy.

Inspectors: – In view of the facts established, instead of continuing to its destination, the vehicle was urgently directed to a repair shop and a vehicle inspection station.

They added:

The driver received a series of fines for the irregularities identified, while administrative proceedings were initiated against the carrier, with the possibility of a hefty financial penalty being imposed.
