As we read on the website of the Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship:

For centuries, Lower Silesia played the role of one of Europe’s leading industrial centres. Pioneering technical solutions on a global scale were often implemented here. Today, two more sites are joining the 26 industrial heritage sites.

The Bolesławiec Museum of Ceramics is one of them. The voivodeship authorities explain:

Bolesławiec, known as the “city of good clay”, can boast ceramic traditions dating back to the Middle Ages. Vessels decorated with stamped patterns are known around the world. Since 2021, the city has been a member of the European Route of Ceramics, one of the Council of Europe’s Cultural Routes, bringing together the most important centres of ceramic craftsmanship. With more than 7,000 exhibits—from 13th-century products to vessels made today—the Museum of Ceramics continues the work of the pre-war Municipal Museum. Since 1967, it has been collecting Bolesławiec stoneware.

The second site to join the Lower Silesian Industrial Heritage Route is the Historic Popowice Depot. Officials say: – A German tramcar from the interwar period, the first Polish-made trams produced after the Second World War, the first Polish high-speed tram and one of the first low-floor buses manufactured in our country. The collection of 30 trams, buses and cars, the oldest of which date from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, is housed at the historic Popowice Depot, established in 1901.

What is the Lower Silesian Industrial Heritage Route?

The Lower Silesian Industrial Heritage Route is an association of industrial and technical heritage sites. It includes monuments connected with energy, railways, mining and metallurgy, processing, communications, water treatment and the food industry. Operating production plants, historic machinery parks, open-air museums, museums and public buildings. A map gathering the sites located along the route received an award in a nationwide PTTK competition. It is available in paper and online versions. It will soon be updated with the sites joining the route.

The Lower Silesian Industrial Heritage Rally is coming

This year, the Lower Silesian Industrial Heritage Rally will be held for the second time in its history—an event devoted entirely to historic automotive and industrial technology. Rally participants will not only travel in historic vehicles, but the entire route will run along the Lower Silesian Industrial Heritage Route. The rally is open to owners of motor vehicles manufactured or designed before 1991. Organisers: You are welcome!
