The ensemble is a unique phenomenon of the cultural heritage of the Ukrainian people. Its members are exclusively men who sing and play the bandura simultaneously. The capella began operating in 1918, and in 1997 it was granted national status.

Over the years, well-known artists collaborated with the ensemble, and in September 2013, choirmaster, choir conductor and educator Yurij Kurakh was appointed the ensemble’s general and artistic director.

In a letter to the organizers of the concert in Poland, the musicians write:

We are currently in Kyiv. In this difficult atmosphere of tension and fear, when we cannot work or fulfill ourselves professionally, we would like to do something for our Homeland. (…) At this difficult time, we want to tell people more about the folk spirit of Ukrainians and also support our army, which is fighting for the freedom of our country.

The ensemble will perform free of charge, while voluntary donations from the audience will be used to help Ukraine.
