On 10 March 2022, at the invitation of the Bolesławiec Bomb Disposal Patrol of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment, firefighters from PSP, OSP and Military Fire Protection Service units took part in an exercise at a training ground near Świętoszów. The main objective of the exercise was to exchange experience between rescuers and soldiers during incidents involving hazards related to explosive materials and high-capacity lithium-ion batteries.

Bolesławiec County Headquarters of the State Fire Service:

The practical training covered, among other things, rescuers’ procedures when assisting injured bomb-disposal specialists wearing protective suits. A demonstration was also held involving the detonation of an explosive charge in a passenger car, intended to reflect the resulting damage and determine the danger zone. In addition, the effectiveness of extinguishing agents was tested at the exercise site while extinguishing fires involving photovoltaic panels and high-capacity lithium-ion batteries.

The exercise was attended by firefighters from the Bolesławiec County PSP Headquarters, OSP Różyniec, OSP Osiecznica and OSP Trzebień, as well as—acting as observers—uniformed personnel from the Jawor County PSP Headquarters, the Lower Silesian PSP Headquarters and the Wrocław Municipal PSP Headquarters. Military fire protection was represented by units from WSP Dobre n. Kwisą and WSP Świętoszów.

Firefighters add:

The conclusions drawn during the exercise will be used to plan and organise rescue operations in response to hazards involving unexploded ordnance, as well as to improve firefighting tactics for fires in buildings, machinery and vehicles powered by electric batteries.
