How can children be encouraged to visit the library? Grażyna Wężyk of GOKiS in Bolesławiec with its registered office in Kruszyna came up with the idea of creating a fairy-tale corner for the youngest children. “I once had the opportunity to visit one of the libraries in Liberec, where a corner of this kind was operating,” the librarian says. “I then thought that we could create something similar in Kruszyna too.”

The GOKiS library also has computer stations with internet access. “While parents surf the internet, children can play in our corner,” says Grażyna Wężyk. “The little ones feel so comfortable here that they do not want to leave the library,” she adds with a smile.

This is the first library in the Bolesławiec Rural Commune where such a corner has been opened. However, the librarian has no doubt that others will follow her example. “It is a worldwide trend,” she emphasizes.

The work on creating the corner lasted about a month. Furniture was installed. Readers brought toys and fairy tales. Artist Sylwia Recka-Markefka took care of the artistic design. “We want children to know that the library is a welcoming place and to become familiar with books from an early age,” the librarian explains. “I think that thanks to this, our library will gain new readers.”
