Last weekend, the Polish Cadet Championship quarterfinals were held in Piła. On the first day of the competition, TOP faced PTPS Piła, while MKS Świdnica played Pałac Bydgoszcz. Both matches were very closely contested and went to five sets. Written off for defeat in the pre-match predictions, the players from Bolesławiec put in a very strong performance and defeated the favored team from Piła 3:2. In the other match, Świdnica defeated Pałac Bydgoszcz.
Saturday was unlucky for TOP. The Bolesławiec team lost to Bydgoszcz 0:3. In the other match, MKS Świdnica defeated Piła 3:1, meaning that Sunday’s matches were to decide which teams would advance to the semifinals. The MKS Świdnica girls led the standings, ahead of Pałac Bydgoszcz, TOP and PTPS Piła.
In the first match on Sunday, TOP played MKS. The beginning of the match was poor for the Bolesławiec team. Despite their determined play, the girls from Bolesławiec lost the first two sets, and it seemed they would leave the court without any reward. However, TOP’s cadets won the third and fourth sets, allowing the Bolesławiec team to level the match at 2:2. The tie-break was to decide the winner. Unfortunately, our players lost it 11:15 and the entire match 2:3. In the other match, PTPS Piła defeated Pałac Bydgoszcz 3:1.
After the sets and so-called small points had been tallied, it turned out that the competition was won by the team from Świdnica, with a perfect record, while second place went to Pałac Bydgoszcz, with one win. PTPS Piła and TOP Bolesławiec (both teams also with one win) finished in third and fourth place, respectively. The top two teams advanced to the Polish Championship semifinals.
In Piła, TOP played with: Paulina Kopeć, Sylwia Duru, Katarzyna Segiet, Dorota Burdyna, Zofia Lenkiewicz, Dominika Mienculewicz, Katarzyna Melko, Edyta Szewczuk, Patrycja Drążkiewicz, Dorota Medyńska. During the season, the team was coached by Tomasz Medyński and Marek Szewczuk.
