Further materials were published on Friday, February 11. What do they reveal? Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki apparently wrote the following to his associates in April 2020, when the situation in many Polish Social Welfare Homes was truly dramatic:
Dear all, you surely have good contacts with the Church hierarchs... My impression is that they missed this situation concerning assistance in the area affected by illness and with the coronavirus in general.
And he was said to have suggested:
They can still take advantage of the difficult situation in the Social Welfare Homes and “send” physical manpower there in the form of teams of manual workers (seminarians, young priests, religious brothers, etc.) — they can train such teams of several people for one or two days and send them to help.
He was also said to have asked his associates for the telephone numbers of Church hierarchs:
This would be a major PR boost for the Church... please share who is calling whom. Tomorrow, at the end of the day, I want information on whom we have called.
(All quotations from Wirtualna Polska).
What the result of the said “calling around” was remains unknown. What do you think? In your opinion, did the Catholic Church rise to the occasion when the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic broke out? We invite you to discuss this..
