It has been known for some time that the Polish Deal did not immediately turn our country into a land flowing with milk and honey. It appears that one of the groups that may have felt disappointed, to put it euphemistically, by the introduction of this legislation is teachers. (Our editorial office recently received similar signals.)
As Dziennik Gazeta Prawna reports:
The total burden of PIT and ZUS contributions for teachers who received overtime pay for January could amount to as much as 90 percent of their gross pay. Someone who was supposed to receive approximately PLN 750 in additional remuneration received… PLN 16.
According to DGP, the problem is confirmed by payslips published on online forums, which show that advances on tax from a taxable base exceeding PLN 1,300 could amount to as much as PLN 678.
Polsat News, also citing the aforementioned outlet, reports that in some cases the problem may have been caused by the payroll system. (According to Grzegorz Ogórek, a PwC expert, it is possible that the system calculated PIT advances twice. Details at polsatnews.pl).
Teachers with higher salaries, DGP suspects, may have “felt the negative effects of exceeding the upper limit of the middle-class tax relief. After receiving the thirteenth salary in January and adding their basic salary, they may have exceeded the upper relief limit (PLN 11,141) and lost the right to it in the month in which they received their remuneration.” (Quoted after onet.pl).
What is more, those who submitted applications not to apply the middle-class relief (because of its overly complicated rules) may also have lost out. Details on the website of Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.
