The Americans have declared that an additional 8,500 soldiers will be deployed to Central and Eastern Europe to reinforce NATO’s eastern flank. Around 2,000 of them are to be sent to Poland, Paweł Soloch, head of the National Security Bureau, said on the air of Polish Radio’s First Programme. According to Minister of National Defence Mariusz Błaszczak, exactly 1,700 American soldiers will arrive in Poland.

For now, detailed information about the troop deployment is not known. It is not yet known whether the additional American soldiers will be sent to Bolesławiec County.

Soloch noted that the activities are being carried out on two levels. “One plan is, of course, the physical presence of American soldiers, including on Polish soil. The second plan, however, is to activate the mechanism and build the capability to deploy truly significant numbers of troops if the need arises,” he explained.

The information about sending additional US Army soldiers to Poland and Germany was confirmed during Wednesday’s press conference by Pentagon spokesman John Kirby, quoted by Onet.pl:

“An additional 2,000 soldiers will be sent in part to Poland and Germany. Their task is to reinforce our allies,” Kirby continued.

The spokesman announced that components of the 82nd Airborne Division’s Brigade Combat Team (BCT) would be sent to Poland, while a component of the XVIII Airborne Corps headquarters would go to Germany. These forces are currently stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.
