At the weekend, a Reader wrote to us:
The cemetery in Nowogrodziec on Sienkiewicza Street has been neglected for many years. Recently, there have not even been any rubbish containers. Visitors to the cemetery leave waste on the ground (as shown in the attached photo), where it is blown around by the wind. The paths are not paved; they are muddy.
He added:
There is no lighting, which is so necessary during the autumn and winter months (especially around All Saints’ Day) so that people can safely visit the graves of their loved ones.
Jacek Ruchała, president of Hydro-Tech in Nowogrodziec:
[…] I would like to inform you that, as of 01/01/2022, the organization of waste collection from the municipal cemeteries of our municipality has changed. It is now handled by ZGiUK from Lubań. Due to the type of vehicles used for this purpose, we were forced to change the location of the containers at the cemetery on H. Sienkiewicza Street in Nowogrodziec. They are currently located by the entrance gate from H. Sienkiewicza Street. Perhaps some visitors’ habit of using the former location means that waste is left where the containers used to stand.
He assures us:
We are trying to clean up the waste and rubbish left behind on an ongoing basis.
He adds:
As the administrator of the municipal cemeteries, Hydro-Tech Sp. z o.o. is responsible for their ongoing maintenance. Unfortunately, the costs incurred significantly exceed the revenue from the fees collected.
The president of the Nowogrodziec company also responded to the Reader’s allegation concerning the lack of investment in the cemetery. J. Ruchała said: “Investments related to the construction of lighting and new paths require funding from the municipal budget.”
