The collision occurred on Thursday, 7 October, a few minutes after 8:00 p.m. “The duty officer of the Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters was notified of a road incident at kilometre 93.600 of the A4 motorway, between Legnickie Pole and Legnica. Road Traffic Department officers immediately went to the scene and properly secured it,” reports Aspirant Anna Grześków from the Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters.
She adds:
Police determined that the 36-year-old tanker driver, travelling towards Zgorzelec, was unable to avoid colliding with a lorry that was stopped in the right lane because of a breakdown.
As a result of the collision, the tanker overturned onto its side, blocking both lanes, and the flammable cargo being transported by the driver of the Iveco vehicle caught fire.
Fortunately, no one was injured. Aspirant A. Grześków:
Traffic heading towards Wrocław was restored during the night, but emergency services are still working at the scene, and the road towards the border remains completely blocked. Drivers are asked to be patient, as removing the tanker from the roadway requires specialist equipment and great care; the disruptions may therefore continue for several more hours.
And adds:
We appeal to drivers to exercise particular caution and maintain an appropriate distance between vehicles. Those travelling towards Zgorzelec are asked to take the S3 road and continue through Jawor.
