At Orka swimming pool, some of the women who use it do not take the required shower. The women enter wearing perfume and do not wash off creams or lotions. They take care not to wet their styled hairdos or let their long, false eyelashes come loose in the water. When they swim, they keep their heads above the water’s surface like submarines keep their periscopes above the water.

Lifeguards at Orka confirm that the problem of failing to shower before entering the pool mainly concerns women. Men are more disciplined in this respect. If lifeguards notice someone who has not used the shower, they point it out to them. People react differently. Some politely return to the shower, while others take offense and even threaten to file a complaint.

Showering before entering the pool is required by regulations. The guidelines of the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate concerning water-quality requirements and sanitary and hygienic conditions at swimming pools clearly state that absolutely every person should thoroughly wash with soap and rinse under the shower before entering the pool hall.

The General Regulations of the Indoor Sports and Recreational Swimming Pool in Bolesławiec Sp. z o.o. clarify that before entering the water, every person must wash under the shower (also after using the toilet) and enter the pool hall through a footbath filled with water.

Why shower before entering the pool?

Showering before entering the pool is primarily a matter of hygiene. If we do not wash under the shower before entering the pool, we bring into it flakes of dead skin, sweat, urine and feces, traces of cosmetics and other bodily secretions, thereby introducing bacteria into the water. People who do not wash before entering the water expose other swimmers to a serious risk of contracting fungal infections of the skin and nails, conjunctivitis, skin irritation, respiratory and digestive problems, as well as intimate infections.

We appeal to everyone, but especially to women. Wash yourselves before entering the pool.
