The recent experience of a Legnica resident showed just how creative criminals can be. She let a woman and a man posing as administration employees into her apartment. The female scammer said that she and her partner worked for the housing cooperative and were carrying out an inspection of the water system because an overpayment had been identified.

The supposed housing cooperative employee asked her victim to fill one compartment of the sink with water. Meanwhile, the criminal duo stole the senior woman's savings. Officers:

The situation seemed so credible that the 82-year-old did not realize a theft had taken place until she wanted to go shopping. The victim's losses amounted to PLN 35,000.

Police warn:

Remember to never let strangers into your homes under any circumstances. Owners of rented premises, property administrators and housing cooperatives always provide advance notice of visits by their employees. Scammers and thieves will readily use every possible means and method to enrich themselves dishonestly.
