Lwówec criminal investigators identified and then detained three men who were proven to have jointly attempted to steal rails from a disused railway track. The theft took place on September 17 in Wleń.
– That day, at around 4:00 p.m., the Lwówek command center received a report from the Railway Protection Guard that one of the perpetrators had been caught red-handed attempting the theft – explains Sgt. Olga Łukaszewicz, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski. – After arriving at the scene, police officers secured the cut railway rails, which had been prepared for removal.
Four people were detained in total. All four were charged with attempted theft of property. But that was not the end of it. One of those detained will also face charges of aiding the perpetrator. (The suspect obstructed the criminal proceedings by urging two other men to admit – in exchange for money – to taking part in the theft of the rails, which was intended to allow the actual thieves to avoid criminal liability).
