The new initiative will make it possible to harness the region’s potential in modern technologies, while low-emission hydrogen will be used on a large scale as a source of clean energy. – I am very pleased that here, in Lower Silesia, we can initiate the establishment of the second hydrogen valley in Poland. Hydrogen is an energy carrier that belongs to the future – said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

– The goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050 is a major challenge for Europe. We want the Lower Silesian Hydrogen Valley to become an important part of this process. As local-government authorities, we strongly support investments in the development of innovative technologies, as well as cooperation with scientific and research centers. I believe that in the coming years we will see the results of these efforts and strengthen Lower Silesia’s position as a modern region that boldly undertakes ambitious challenges – added Marshal Cezary Przybylski.

The letter of intent was signed together with Marshal Cezary Przybylski by:

  • Cezariusz Lesisz, President of the Management Board of the Industrial Development Agency S.A.,
  • Prof. Dr. Hab. Eng. Arkadiusz Wójs, Rector of Wrocław University of Science and Technology,
  • Marcin Chludziński, President of the Management Board of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.,
  • Dariusz Mikołajczak, President of Toyota Manufacturing Motor Poland.

The strategy developed by the Ministry of Climate and Environment through 2030 provides for the establishment of five hydrogen valleys, which will form the backbone of the energy transition involving the adaptation of electricity and district-heating networks to hydrogen combustion or co-combustion. Public transport will also undergo transformation, as hydrogen may be used as fuel.

As part of the National Recovery Plan, €800 million will be allocated to the development of hydrogen technologies. The Industrial Development Agency is participating in the establishment of five hydrogen valleys. The first valley was established in May this year in Rzeszów. Further ones will be created in Lower Silesia, Podkarpacie, Mazovia, Silesia and Greater Poland.
