At precisely 8:00 a.m., the ceremony commander, Lt. Col. Paweł Jędryczka, reported the subunits’ readiness for the solemn oath to the commander of the 23rd Artillery Regiment, Col. Marek Wasielewski.

At the regiment commander’s invitation, the ceremony was attended by the deputy military recruitment commandant in Bolesławiec, Maj. Mieczysław Owczarz, and the chaplain of the 23rd Artillery Regiment, Rev. Lt. Maciej Gizicki. Due to the epidemic situation in the country and the restrictions in force, the ceremony was held among the recruits’ closest relatives.

Colonel Marek Wasielewski:

Remember that an oath is not merely a solemn ceremony or spoken words. Above all, it is an act of pledging, an expression of your patriotism and your greatest commitment to the goals and tasks entrusted to soldiers by the Polish Nation. Proudly wearing a uniform bearing the white-and-red flag, soldiers undertake to represent with dignity the values and ideals for which successive generations of Poles fought. Today you have joined our military community, which bears responsibility for Poland and its security.

The centerpiece of the ceremony was the military oath taken by the recruits who had completed the basic training module at the Bolesławiec Academic Legion Student Training Center. Those honored to swear on the colors were:

  • Private recruit Marcin Wesołowski,
  • Private recruit Kacper Lipa,
  • Private recruit Hubert Bednarski,
  • Private recruit Dagmara Botur.

The regiment chaplain then gave the soldiers his blessing.

Private Laura Łużna:

Today we completed the three-week basic module training of the Academic Legion. This day is one of the most important and momentous events in our lives. The military oath we took is not merely the words of the “Rota”—it testifies to our patriotism and readiness to undertake the most important obligations toward our homeland. From today onward, three fundamental values of military service will always accompany us: “God, Honor, Fatherland.”

For achieving the best results in training and discipline during the basic training, the regiment commander honored the following with letters of commendation:

  • Private recruit Kacper Lipa,
  • Private recruit Laura Łużna,
  • Private recruit Kacper Rogacki,
  • Private recruit Natalia Wrońska.

The soldiers’ closest relatives attended the presentation of the letters of commendation and received flowers from the regiment commander.

The ceremony concluded with a parade of the subunits accompanied by the Żagań Military Orchestra, after which the soldiers received their first passes.
