The ceremony was attended by veterans, soldiers of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment, scouts, local government authorities, school and organization flag bearers, and residents of Bolesławiec. Those gathered paid tribute to the Polish soldiers who fought in World War II and to those who gave their lives in the struggle for their homeland’s freedom.

An unusual and moving conclusion to the ceremony was the unveiling and consecration of the tombstone monument to Lieutenant Colonel Władysław Mróz at the municipal cemetery in Bolesławiec. The grave of Lieutenant Colonel Władysław Mróz (1897–1954), a member of the Home Army and an Indomitable Soldier, was renovated on the initiative of Władysław Olszewski, with the participation of instructors from the ZHP Szare Szeregi Scout District, the Association of Friends of the Drohobych Region, including, among others, Edward Badecki from Koziniec and Leszek Żugaj from Żeliszów.

During the September Campaign of 1939, Władysław Mróz was a major and commander of the 1st Battalion of the 5th Podhale Rifles Regiment. A reference to the heritage and traditions of Podhale units is the symbolic kłobuk—a highlander’s hat and a characteristic element of a Podhale rifleman’s uniform—placed on Lieutenant Colonel Mróz’s monument. The symbolic unveiling of the monument took place on September 1, the 67th anniversary of the death of the heroic Lieutenant Colonel Mróz.

Lieutenant Colonel Władysław Mróz was born on March 23, 1897, in Stary Sącz. He belonged to the scouting movement, took part in the Polish–Bolshevik War, commanded the 1st Battalion of the 5th Podhale Rifles Regiment during the September Campaign of 1939, served as commander of the Home Army Inspectorate in Drohobych, and was persecuted by the UB. He arrived in Bolesławiec in September 1945. He died on September 1, 1954, in Bolesławiec. More at boleslawiec.eu
