On Saturday, 28 August, the 2nd Active Rehabilitation Sports Festival was held for the second consecutive year at the Water and Sports Centre on Spacerowa Street in Bolesławiec. Around 50 people took part in the event, including both children and adults from the Lower Silesian, Lubusz and Opole Voivodeships.

The event was organized by the Active Rehabilitation Foundation – Lower Silesian Region, the Bolesławiec County Office, the Municipal Sports and Recreation Centre in Bolesławiec, and the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport.

This year, participants in the Sports Festival could compete in disciplines including:

  • archery,
  • slalom,
  • obstacle slalom,
  • basketball,
  • a timed wheelchair race while blindfolded.

The sporting competition concluded with the Ceramic Cross, a wheelchair race. In addition to great fun, the organizers also prepared a demonstration of rehabilitation equipment and wheelchair servicing. Throughout the event, participants could have hot meals to regain their strength for the next competitions.

A huge surprise for the participants was a raffle in which two vouchers were awarded, each for two people, for a stay at the Milenium Complex in Kołobrzeg.

The Sports Festival was not only an opportunity to meet and exchange experiences. It also offered a chance to spend time actively, experience genuine sporting competition and overcome personal weaknesses. The large number of athletes with disabilities showed that sport is an excellent form of social rehabilitation and an opportunity to break down stereotypes.

Bolesławiec County:

The initiative prepared by the Active Rehabilitation Foundation was co-financed by funds from the State Fund for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities transferred by Bolesławiec County.
