– The agreement signed today [30 August – istotne.pl note] allows us to enter the next stage of this investment. The next step is a planning and forecasting study, which will determine the scope and costs of the revitalization and enable us to obtain funding from the government’s Kolej Plus programme – says Marshal Cezary Przybylski. – Connecting Bogatynia and the surrounding towns to the railway network is extremely important to us. As the voivodeship’s local government, we systematically take over lines that have not been used to date from PKP and, after carrying out the necessary modernization work, we will launch passenger services on them.
The Lower Silesian Voivodeship local government has already taken over 19 of the 22 planned out-of-service railway lines.
The investment will be financed through cooperation between the voivodeship local government and the Bogatynia local government. The cost was estimated at PLN 1.4 million, which the local governments will share equally. UMWD:
Due to the lack of willingness to cooperate on the part of most local authorities—the City of Zgorzelec, Zgorzelec Municipality, Sulików Municipality and Zgorzelec County—on the railway revitalization project, preparation of the documentation for the second stage of the call for applications was temporarily suspended. Only Bogatynia Municipality had expressed interest and willingness to cooperate on this important social project from the outset. Thanks to a resolution by the Bogatynia local government securing the required amount of funding, the Lower Silesian Voivodeship is also continuing to compile the documentation for this project.
– We are extremely pleased with the regional authorities’ decision to revitalize this line. The agreement signed today with the marshal brings us closer to completing this important investment for Bogatynia. I would like to thank everyone who supported this project, and I believe that, thanks to cooperation with the voivodeship local government and the government, we will be able to implement it efficiently – adds Wojciech Dobrołowicz, Mayor of Bogatynia.
