The incident took place on Friday, August 13, in the evening. Firefighters from the Bolesławiec County Headquarters of the State Fire Service:
Junior asp. Maciej Marcinkiewicz, an officer of the County Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec, was enjoying the attractions of Bolesławiec’s thermal baths with his family when he noticed a commotion at the brine pool.
It turned out that lifeguards had pulled an unconscious man from the pool in question. The officials:
Because the firefighter is a trained paramedic and WOPR instructor, he offered to help provide qualified first aid to the casualty. Together, they examined him, after which the rescuers determined that cardiac arrest had not yet occurred, but the casualty could not breathe independently and was unconscious; the cause of this condition may have been an obstructed airway caused by water entering the lungs.
What actions were taken?
The Headquarters: “The casualty was placed in the recovery position, and his airway was cleared by delivering blows between the shoulder blades. After several minutes, this led to the removal of water from the respiratory system and the return of spontaneous breathing. Passive oxygen therapy was administered. After approximately 10 minutes, the casualty regained consciousness and was handed over to the emergency medical team.”
The firefighters:
It is worth noting that the vigilance of other people using the facility also contributed to the swift and efficient rescue operation.
They added:
The attitude of bystanders who are not professional rescuers but conscious citizens, together with the professional training of rescuers on and off duty, means that we can feel safer.
