Setting up the stage and tables, preparing meals and the artistic program, and providing organizational assistance – among other things, representatives of Powiat Bolesławiecki, the Polish Children's Friends Society and three deaneries in Bolesławiec honored with certificates the volunteers who helped with the tenth Opłatek for People with Disabilities. Special thanks were also given to sponsors, non-governmental organizations and county institutions. The ceremony was held on Fat Thursday, so there was also a delicious doughnut treat.
“I am bursting with pride when I can present so many thanks to young people,” said starosta Cezary Przybylski. “I can see that volunteering is becoming fashionable. It is a wonderful phenomenon,” he added.
The number of young volunteers is indeed surprising. As many as 250 students from upper-secondary schools devoted their time and energy to helping prepare for the Opłatek. Most of them were students of the Zespół Szkół Ogólnokształcących i Zawodowych w Bolesławcu. “If we wanted to present our thanks to all the students at this school, the ceremony would go on and on!” laughed Barbara Kostyra, head of the Social Affairs Department Barbara Kostyra.
The gifts were presented by Powiat Councilor and president of the Bolesławiec branch of the Polish Children's Friends Society Jadwiga Bobek, starosta Cezary Przybylski, Chair of the Powiat Council Karol Stasik, Rev. Tomasz Biczko and Deputy Starosta Stanisław Chwojnicki.
The Opłatek, held on January 16 this year, was attended by 800 people with disabilities from Bolesławiec and Lwówek counties. The exhibition of entries in the “Memory of the Opłatek” competition can be visited from February 23 at the Youth Cultural Center.
