“The larynx fracture caused Bartek’s death,” says Dr. Wojciech Kasprzyk, the lawyer representing the family of the man who died after a police intervention. He learned this from medical staff who saw Bartek’s body.
This is not official information for now, because the prosecutor’s office has not yet disclosed the results of the autopsy of the 34-year-old. Apparently, the expert report does not explain the cause of death.
“We are filing a motion to remove the Lubin prosecutor’s office from the case and are requesting a new examination of the body at another institute of forensic medicine,” adds Dr. Wojciech Kasprzyk.
During Friday’s intervention in Lubin, officers held the handcuffed man down on the ground and restricted his breathing; this lasted more than 20 minutes. Bartek was under the influence of drugs and struggled. Later, while being restrained by police officers, he called for help. At one point, he lost consciousness.
On Saturday and Sunday, riots broke out in front of the Police Headquarters on Traugutta Street. People shouted abusive slogans at police officers and threw dangerous objects at the officers and the headquarters building. Police used firearms, tear gas and a water cannon. More than 50 people were detained.
