– Last Monday, after 9 p.m., the duty officer at the District Police Headquarters in Złotoryja received a report that a collision involving two passenger cars had occurred on a provincial road in Zagrodno – reports Sergeant First Class Dominika Kwakszys, press officer of the Złotoryja District Police Headquarters.
Traffic police established that, while overtaking another car, the driver of a Renault caused a side-on collision with it, then knocked down road signs and ended up in a ditch. And then – as if nothing had happened – he fled the scene.
Spokeswoman:
However, immediately after his escape, he was detained by local volunteer firefighters. During the intervention, he violated the bodily integrity of one of the firefighters and threatened him.
The man was detained. It turned out that the perpetrator was completely drunk, with nearly 2 per mille of alcohol in his breath. What is more, the car he was driving was unregistered, and the plates belonged to another vehicle.
That is not all. The drunk driver did not have a driving licence; he had lost it several months earlier – unsurprisingly – for driving under the influence of alcohol.
He could now face up to two years in prison.
