– Officers from the Border Guard Post in Jelenia Góra detained a 34-year-old Lower Silesian resident in Lwówek County who was storing more than 320 kilograms of smoking tobacco, 1,575 litres of alcohol of unknown origin and more than 9,100 packs of cigarettes of various brands without Polish excise duty markings in a delivery van he used and in a rented utility room – reports 2nd Lt. SG Joanna Konieczniak, press spokesperson for the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit.
She adds:
Had the seized goods entered circulation, the State Treasury would have lost PLN 600,000 in unpaid taxes.
The detained man was charged with committing a fiscal offence. Further proceedings in the case are being conducted by Border Guard officers from Jelenia Góra. The 34-year-old faces a heavy fine as well as imprisonment.
