Officers from the Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters’ Department for Combating Property Crime conducted operational activities that enabled them to identify a man suspected of numerous thefts in the city and Legnica County. “As part of the planned operation, criminal investigators went to an apartment in Legnica where the 39-year-old was believed to be staying. However, the suspect had no intention of meeting the police and decided to escape via the balcony,” reports junior warrant officer Aleksandra Pieprzycka of the Lower Silesian Police Headquarters in Wrocław.

She adds:

Even the fact that he was on the fourth floor did not frighten him.

The plan failed. The police had anticipated how the thief might behave and were waiting for him on the other side of the balcony. Legnica’s Spider-Man managed to climb down to the second floor, from where officers lowered him to the ground using a lift.

That was not the end of it. While searching the man and the apartment where he had been staying, officers secured drugs, a rifle, ammunition, equipment used to steal vehicles, and items that may have come from criminal activity, including power tools, coins and multimedia equipment.

It was also established that the suspect had a Volkswagen car theft and a motorcycle theft on his record. The victims’ total losses were estimated at several thousand złoty. The man has already been charged and faces between three months and five years in prison.
