Łukasz Bilaszewski – Head of the Emergency Department:

Children who have suffered various injuries are the most frequent patients at the Emergency Department. Every child is examined and consulted by a surgeon. Children with other complaints, such as abdominal pain, are referred to the Paediatric Department, where specialist doctors are ready to assist; the department also has excellent diagnostic facilities.

He adds:

In acute situations, parents should call an ambulance without hesitation. It is difficult for parents to assess their child’s condition on their own, and it is better that they do not try to do so but instead trust specialists. That is why I recommend calling for help. The medical team at the scene will assess the young patient’s condition and decide whether, for example, urgent surgical intervention is required. In the ambulance, the child receives full medical care until being handed over to a specialist hospital department. Calling an ambulance is every patient’s right.

ZOZ Bolesławiec:

If your child suffers, for example, a limb fracture, is injured and you suspect that they may have internal organ damage, call an ambulance immediately! Do not delay for a moment, and do not worry that you will be held responsible for an unjustified call-out of the emergency medical team.

The medical team can quickly and professionally assess the child’s health, examining whether an acute disease process is developing in the abdominal cavity. Paramedics know the procedures perfectly and know how to act. As a rule, they immediately transport the child to the appropriate hospital.

He explains:

Children with a hospital referral issued by a family doctor or a specialist are admitted to our Paediatric Department. If there is no referral, the Emergency Department doctor assesses the child’s condition and decides on the further treatment pathway.
