Tour de Konstytucja is an event promoting the provisions of the Constitution and the political practices developed over more than 20 years of the current basic law being in force. The Tour Bus set out on June 4 from Radom to meet with Polish people and discuss civil rights. More than 100 towns and localities are on the itinerary, including Gromadka.

The organizers of the Tour de Konstytucja visit to Gromadka are activists from Wolna Gromadka and Bolesławiecki Strajk Kobiet. Members of Wolna Gromadka are fighting violations of civil rights by the Commune Council. The issue concerns the “Local Government Charter of Family Rights,” a document prepared by the orthodox Ordo Iuris Institute that only ostensibly aims to protect the family and in practice discriminates against single parents and LGBT+ people. The councillors do not want to change their position. The Association Kultura Równości supports efforts to repeal the Charter in Gromadka.

This may be the reason why the organizers are being treated coldly by local-government institutions. There was no willingness to make the square by the school sports hall available to the organizers, and the director of the Commune Cultural Centre, where they wanted to borrow sound equipment, officially refused to help. Gromadka Commune Head Dariusz Pawliszczy called one of the organizers and offered a venue for the event: a playground in the town park.

“I thanked the commune head and declined,” says Halina Gniewek. “As we sensed, on a human level, the distance with which officials treated our requests for help, we accepted an invitation from a private company. Tour de Konstytucja will take place in the beautiful garden of the Care and Rehabilitation Centre. Although there are no parking spaces there, I think it will be the best place for us. We are preparing a joyful event for the community, which we have called Constitution at the Picnic. There will be many attractions for children and adults, and we hope everyone will have a great time,” adds Halina Gniewek.
