– Border Guard officers from the Zgorzelec station selected for inspection a van traveling toward the German border. During the vehicle inspection, the officers discovered that the vehicle had a double roof in its cargo compartment, reports Maj. SG Joanna Konieczniak, press spokeswoman for the Nadodrzański Border Guard Branch. – In a specially constructed compartment, the officers found 26,000 packs (520,000 individual cigarettes) without fiscal excise-duty markings.
The value of the contraband was estimated at nearly 400,000 złotys. The van’s driver, a 27-year-old Ukrainian citizen, was detained.
Spokeswoman:
The foreign national was charged with possessing and transporting tobacco products without fiscal excise-duty markings, thereby causing a reduction in excise-duty and VAT revenues amounting to 615,000 złotys.
Additionally, proceedings were initiated against the 27-year-old. (This concerns issuing a decision requiring him to leave Poland).
