Officers from the Border Guard Post in Zgorzelec selected a truck for inspection in the area of the A4 motorway. “Its driver, a 46-year-old Polish man, behaved unusually, according to the officers conducting the inspection; the appearance of the driver’s cabin was also unusual. The officers’ intuition during the inspection did not let them down,” reports Major of the Border Guard Joanna Konieczniak, press spokesperson for the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit.
During a thorough inspection of the driver’s cabin, officers uncovered 56 bags filled with marijuana. The spokesperson:
The drug was being transported beneath the upholstery in specially prepared compartments. After weighing the narcotics, officers determined that the driver was carrying 58.3 kilograms of marijuana with a black-market value of over PLN 2,621,217.
The 46-year-old was arrested and, on the same day, charged with the intra-Community transport of narcotic substances. The court ordered the suspect to be held in temporary custody for three months. The man could face a prison sentence of between three months and as many as five years.
