The results of this year's Grand Press Photo competition are known. Fifty-seven photographers competed for awards for photographs, reportage projects and documentary projects. In the portrait category, the winning photograph was taken by Wrocław-based freelancer Paweł Łączny. Here is its official description:
Anna Gadzińska, a nurse at the Zespół Opieki Zdrowotnej w Bolesławcu, works in a neurology ward converted into a COVID ward. The portrait of the nurse, showing marks left by goggles and a face shield, was taken just after she left the so-called contaminated zone.
“The message is simple: through the symbolism of the grooves left by the goggles visible on the face, I wanted to show the heroic attitude of medical workers,” the photograph's author told the Wrocław-based wyborcza.pl service.
