Schedule from May 21, 2021
Only during the weekend: preview screenings of the film ANOTHER ROUND, which won the Oscar for Best International Feature Film and features a superb performance by Mads Mikkelsen. The film tells the story of a group of friends and secondary-school teachers inspired by the theory that a modest dose of something stronger can help people open up to the world and function better in it. However, they fail to anticipate the consequences of maintaining a constant blood-alcohol level over a prolonged period—throughout the day, including at work.
Another film available for an advance screening at Forum is NOMADLAND, featuring Frances McDormand in her Oscar-winning role. The protagonist abandons her former life in Nevada. She becomes a nomad, a wanderer who sets off wherever the wind carries her. She travels by van, meets new people pushed to the margins of society, and also embarks on an inner journey. It is a reflective, thought-provoking film that encourages viewers to consider their own lives and the world in which we live.
The schedule also includes the premiere of THE FATHER, winner of two statuettes—a delicate and moving reflection on the fragility of human life. It is also a wonderful portrayal of the relationship between a father and daughter. The leading role is played by Sir Anthony Hopkins, who won the statuette for Best Actor.
Another Oscar-winning title is PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN—a sharp thriller about a woman seeking revenge. It is an extraordinary combination of revenge cinema, romantic comedy and dark thriller, enhanced by excellent music and brilliant styling, with a superb performance by Carey Mulligan.
The schedule also includes family entertainment. The animated film SOUL won two Oscars this year—for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score. It is a wonderful, moving and uplifting film, ideal for a family trip to the cinema.
Fans of Pedro Almodóvar’s work are warmly encouraged to see his latest short film, THE HUMAN VOICE. It is the first film this Spanish director has made with Tilda Swinton and his first English-language project. A melodrama brimming with colour and emotion, it follows a woman experiencing a breakup with her beloved. It is a manifesto of female independence and the strength to survive.
The full schedule, including descriptions and the option to purchase tickets online, is available on the Forum cinema website. See you at the cinema!
