Officers of the Lower Silesian National Revenue Administration regularly inspect courier shipments in Lower Silesia. They are assisted in their work by a service dog trained to detect tobacco products and drugs.
“In the first week of May 2021, they discovered parcels in which almost 300 kg of cut smoking tobacco without excise stamps and 25 grams of marijuana were being smuggled,” says Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek, spokesperson for the Lower Silesian KAS. “Losses to the State Treasury amounted to PLN 330,000, including PLN 260,000 in excise duty and over PLN 70,000 in VAT.”
She adds:
Since January 2021, officers of the Lower Silesian KAS have found more than 638 kg of illegal cut smoking tobacco in courier shipments, worth over PLN 580,000.
