The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 11, at approximately 11:40 a.m. “At the premises of one of Wrocław’s logistics companies, the driver of a Romanian truck that had arrived there from Istanbul became concerned by noises coming from the trailer and people emerging through the upper part of the tarpaulin. He immediately informed Wrocław police officers,” reports Maj. SG Joanna Konieczniak, press spokesperson for the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit.

Officers of the Border Guard from the Wrocław-Strachowice post and the Lower Silesian Customs and Tax Office also went to the scene. The spokesperson said:

Together with the driver and his replacement driver, the officers opened the trailer doors and discovered that four foreigners were traveling inside, between air conditioners. The foreigners had no documents with them and stated that they came from Afghanistan.

Maj. SG J. Konieczniak said:

They were all detained because they lacked documents authorizing them to stay legally in Poland.

It turned out that one of the foreigners was over 18, while the others were between 16 and 18 years old. Their Afghan citizenship and personal details were confirmed. Officials said: “During questioning, the men stated that their destination was the countries of Western Europe and that they had entered the truck trailer while it was parked in a lot in Serbia, cutting open the upper part of the tarpaulin.”

At the end of March this year, they had all submitted applications for international protection in Romania. The spokesperson said:

Authorities are currently taking steps to place the Afghans in guarded centers for foreigners and then transfer them to Romania under the Dublin procedure.
