“We do not expect any expressions of gratitude from our patients,” says Monika Fiedorczuk, Head Nurse in the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at the Zespół Opieki Zdrowotnej in Bolesławiec. “The greatest reward, happiness and sense of relief for us is the day when a patient leaves the hospital in good health.”
For many weeks, the department’s staff fought to enable a patient suffering complications after COVID-19 to return to her family. It was a joint struggle. A few days after being discharged, Ms Ewa (her name has been changed) came with her husband to thank the team for their care:
With immense gratitude and respect, I would like to thank you for saving my life, for the highest level of professionalism, and for the excellent and compassionate care throughout the entire treatment process.
I bow deeply
Your grateful patient
The Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care receives patients in the most serious conditions. The day when a patient returns home under their own power is a moment of the greatest joy and satisfaction for the entire staff.
“Meeting again, but under completely different circumstances, was deeply moving for all of us,” says Monika Fiedorczuk. “It was difficult to hold back the tears. Fortunately, this time they were tears of joy.”
