In Kazakhstan, a “Polish woman” [przeki to pogardliwe określenie Polaków w Rosji przyp. red.], in Poland, a “Russian”—this is how the woman who preserved her Polish identity during the times of Stalinist and Soviet repression describes her experiences. After 1989, she took advantage of the opportunity to return to Poland. Over time, she became increasingly at home in Bolesławiec and increasingly Polish.
“I walked around these streets, touched the walls, and several times approached the house that they were renovating for me in Bolesławiec,” Ludmiła says, speaking about her joy at returning to Poland, and becomes very emotional.
A short film about her story was made by: Magdalena Juszczyk—director and executive producer; Sebastian Zielonka—screenwriter, production manager and content editor; Norbert Serafin—director of photography; Monika Worona—editor; and Marek Kamiński—composer.
