After 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 11, firefighters were called to a fire in the industrial zone in Osła. A sorting machine caught fire in the Prodigo hall. Witnesses were alarmed by the heavy smoke. The fire was fought by several fire service units: OSP KSRG Gromadka, OSP KSRG Różyniec, OSP Krzyżowa, OSP Wierzbowa, OSP Nowa Kuźnia and JRG Bolesławiec.

Volunteer firefighters from Różyniec:

9:33 a.m. – two of our crews were dispatched to a fire involving a machine and material used to produce alternative fuel. Upon arrival, it turned out that both the machine and processed material were burning in the production hall. Our response consisted of deploying one extinguishing line from each of the two vehicles to protect the machine and the alternative fuel that had already been produced.

The incident was reported by the County Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec:

On April 11, 2021, at 9:32 a.m., the command post of the County Commander of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec received a report of a fire at the Prodigo S.A. waste-processing plant producing alternative fuels in Osła. The duty officer immediately dispatched three crews from JRG Bolesławiec, as well as OSP KSRG Różyniec, OSP Gromadka, OSP Wierzbowa, OSP Nowa Kuźnia, Ochotnicza Straż Pożarna Krzyżowa and Ochotnicza Straż Pożarna w Nowogrodźcu (a mechanical ladder).

When the first crews reached the scene, firefighters found very heavy smoke in the production hall. The fire had engulfed a shredding machine and conveyor belt, as well as a pile of finished alternative fuel. The fire was extinguished using five water streams.

Firefighting operations lasted two hours and eight minutes. Ten firefighting vehicles and 37 firefighters, as well as two police patrols, took part in the operation.
