The incident occurred on December 22, at around 4:00 a.m., near Szczytnica. A Ford Fiesta driven by a 72-year-old woman left the motorway and hit one of two trees growing on the roadside. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts, the 72-year-old woman died.
The car driven by the woman had summer tyres. A prosecutor and police officers arrived at the scene of the accident. According to the investigators’ preliminary findings, the woman most likely fell asleep at the wheel.
Groceries and the accident victim’s personal belongings were found in the car. The woman was presumably returning home for the holidays. This was not the first accident to occur on this section of the A4 motorway. Four road accidents have been recorded there since the beginning of December.
