The club was established in 1984 (on Friday, December 11 this year, blood donors celebrated the organization’s 25th anniversary). As the members themselves say, it is the largest Honorary Blood Donors’ Club in our county and one of the largest in Lower Silesia. It currently has 69 members, including 28 professional soldiers.
Over a quarter of a century, the organization’s members have donated 3,800 liters of blood. They save the lives primarily of Lower Silesia residents, but not only them. – Representatives of the military hospital from Wrocław come to us at least three times a year – says Zygmunt Myśliwiec, president and one of the founders of the Bolesławiec HDK Club.
More Than Just Donating Blood
All members of the organization also belong to a PCK branch. What is more, the club actively participates in charitable activities and organizes trips, shooting competitions and fishing competitions. – We try to be proactive – the president says with a smile. In 1997, the organization, as the most active HDK club, received Senator Jerzy Cieślak’s trophy.
A Family Club
– There is a family atmosphere here – says Kazimierz Sutryk, the club’s vice-president. Parents bring their children into the organization, and wives bring in their husbands. – My son has already surpassed me in donating blood – Zygmunt Myśliwiec jokes. – The club is not at risk of falling apart; quite the opposite: we are growing – adds Ewa Sutryk, a member of the organization and, privately, the vice-president’s wife.
Why do they donate blood? – I always repeat this: you either commit yourself to blood donation wholeheartedly or not at all – Kazimierz Sutryk emphasizes. – No medicine can replace blood. If you want to help, you do it and derive satisfaction from it. If we take on something, let’s do it properly – he adds.
