Particular attention should be paid to the possibility of performing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty, during which only the damaged compartment of the joint is replaced, preserving the remaining undamaged parts, especially both cruciate ligaments, which are removed during total arthroplasty. Following the procedure and rehabilitation, patients have a good chance of maintaining a relatively high level of physical activity. This is the global trend in treating degenerative knee changes, but the condition is that the operation is performed sufficiently early, as the indications for it are limited in time.
