Bad news from the Bolesławiec county hospital. The facility has been overcrowded (110 beds) for nearly a week and is unable to admit more patients. Twenty-three people are on ventilators.

However, 30 additional COVID beds will soon be added at the hospital. Another COVID ward will be opened in the former orthopedic ward.

What about orthopedics?

The ward will be moved to a new location and expanded by 8 beds. (There will be 23 in total.) And, as Kamil Barczyk, the director of the county hospital, emphasizes, both the conditions and the quality of treatment will improve significantly.

Will the non-COVID wards be closed again?

There is no such risk for now.

What is the situation in the COVID wards?

As K. Barczyk points out, the situation appears to be much more serious than in October or November last year. Therefore, it is important that those who have symptoms of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus contact their primary care physicians. (Many people come to the hospital when they are already in very serious condition—and often without any prior diagnosis).

The director appeals to the public: there is no need to fear quarantine. Test results are available within 24 hours. Moreover, not realizing that we are infected may result in our infecting others. (For someone, this could have tragic consequences).

We will certainly return to this topic.
