The artillerymen honored the memory of the Cursed Soldiers, heroes of the independence underground, with a formal assembly during which a brief account of the historical background of the observance was read. Colonel Marek Wasielewski:
Today, on the anniversary of the execution of seven members of the Main Board of the „Freedom and Independence” Association, we observe the National Day of Remembrance of the Cursed Soldiers. On this day, we pay due tribute to the Polish soldiers who, refusing to accept the further enslavement of our Homeland, opposed Soviet aggression and the communist regime. Let us remember their patriotic attitude and heroism, because the memory of heroes is what builds our national identity.
Immediately after the assembly, soldiers and civilian employees of the armed forces took part—for the fourth time—in the „Related by Service” blood donation campaign, conducted under the honorary patronage of the Minister of National Defence. Once again, the artillerymen did not disappoint. Warrant Officer Grzegorz Prystupa, president of the blood donors’ club operating at the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment and organizer of the campaign:
The nearly 14 liters of blood collected that day will go to people in need and patients throughout Poland. This is evidence of the generosity of the soldiers of the 23rd Artillery Regiment, who are always ready to help those in need.
In the afternoon, a delegation of soldiers, led by the commander of the Bolesławiec artillerymen, Colonel Marek Wasielewski, took part in a symbolic ceremony organized in Bolesławiec, with due regard for the prevailing sanitary restrictions.
