Agreed – sanitary regulations, safety, distancing and increased anti-virus vigilance: we assure you that we will meet all these conditions.

On the other hand, we ask you, dear lovers of the silver screen, to show that you are with us. Let your presence shout out that CINEMA is needed—indeed, essential to life; that during this time of “national” gloom (when will this word, now being declined in every direction, regain its true meaning?) it is impossible to enjoy life or enrich it without CINEMA.

Yes, yes, I too want, like Clint Eastwood, for people to “...take something more from cinema.” Let us prove that this is so.

So, let’s get to work… We “squeezed” from the cinema distributors what today seems interesting and new and corresponds with Valentine’s Day.
We also have a surprise for children and for those who love ambitious, reflective and unconventional cinema.

And a little incentive – a special Valentine’s film offer for the comeback of “Kino Forum”: over the weekend of February 12–14, tickets for selected titles cost PLN 15.

Our suggestions:

  • Magical Museum. Screenings: February 12–14, 3:00 p.m., ticket: PLN 15, an animated film that achieved huge attendance success in the Czech Republic, where it was made, becoming the country’s highest-grossing European animation. It is the story of an intelligent and energetic boy whose only goal is to complete the final level of a game, enter the Hall of Fame of Players and earn his father’s recognition. But completing the game only begins his adventure, when he sets off with his friend Monika and a dog to a forgotten doll museum.
  •  Another Round, the only advance screening, February 13 at 7:30 p.m. ticket: PLN 15. Winner of the 2020 European Film Awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Screenplay, and Denmark’s Oscar submission. The film tells the story of a group of friends, secondary-school teachers inspired by the theory that a modest dose of alcohol allows people to open up to the world and function better in it. However, they do not anticipate the consequences of maintaining a constant blood-alcohol level over an extended period—throughout the entire day, including at work.
  • Sound of Metal (advance screenings). Screenings: February 12 and 14 at 7:30 p.m., February 13 at 6:30 p.m. / ticket: PLN 15.
A moving, emotional story about a couple’s fate: an astonishing duo, Riz Ahmed—nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama for this role—and Olivia Cooke, who from one day to the next must face a challenge that irrevocably changes their lives. Ruben is a passionate drummer, while Lu is a charismatic vocalist. When they set off on tour and their dream of releasing a debut album is within reach, Ruben suddenly begins to lose his hearing. In an instant, the life he had known and loved falls apart, and the future becomes one great unknown. His girlfriend Lu, however, refuses to give up and decides to do everything she can to save Ruben and what has connected them until now.
  • Charlatan. Screenings: February 12 and 14 at 6:00 p.m., February 13 at 4:00 p.m. ticket: PLN 15. The latest work by Polish director Agnieszka Holland, nominated for an Oscar as the Czech Republic’s entry in the “Best International Feature Film” category. The film presents the life story of Czechoslovak herbalist Jan Mikoláška, whose help was sought by, among others, King George VI of England and Antonín Zápotocký. The story takes place in the 1950s, when the future president provided Mikoláška with protection that ended with the ruler’s death. The titular charlatan then fell into the clutches of the communist system. He was tried, stripped of his property and deprived of his civil rights.
  • Palm Springs, advance screenings. Screenings: February 12–14, 5:30 p.m. An intelligent and hilarious comedy that became a sensation at the Sundance Festival. This remarkable debut by American director Max Barbakow is an ideal choice for times when everything seems pointless and perhaps the best solution is a wild party. Carefree Nyles (Andy Samberg) and avowed singleton Sarah (Cristin Milioti) meet at a wedding in Palm Springs. The stiff celebration unexpectedly reveals its explosive potential when it turns out that both have been trapped in a time loop and relive the same day over and over. In a situation that initially seems hopeless, Nyles and Sarah discover the possibilities offered by total freedom. Together they pursue the wildest ideas and, along the way, experience the most outrageous romance of all time.

Long live CINEMA!
