The onset of winter is taking a heavy toll on drivers. We appeal for caution. The Police Headquarters has several pieces of advice for drivers:
- Before setting out, make sure our vehicle is in good technical condition. We should only set off once the car has been cleared of snow and its windows are clean and defrosted. Let us also remember to have windshield washer fluid and winter tires. Although regulations do not require us to change to winter tires, such tires handle difficult winter conditions better and more efficiently.
- We also appeal to truck drivers to remember to clear snow from trailers and tarpaulins—the snow falling from them can cause very dangerous incidents on the roads.
- Once on the road, adjust your speed to the conditions, turn on the required lights and, above all, maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front. In winter conditions, we must remember that braking distances can become significantly longer. So react in advance. We should also follow this rule near pedestrian crossings. Pay attention to pedestrians, who may be less visible. It is essential to reduce your speed. Let us be kind and understanding toward other road users.
