The incident took place during the night of January 17–18. Shortly after 3 a.m., the victim started his car to warm up the engine before setting off on a journey, and then went home for a moment. Two thieves—aged 23 and 24—took advantage of this opportunity and stole the key from the ignition.

Based on the information they had gathered, officers identified the suspects in the case and arrested them. The two residents of Warta Bolesławiecka municipality, aged 23 and 24, have already been charged with theft.

It turned out that the older suspect had also broken into a basement and stolen gas cylinders, as well as damaged an intercom.

Officers recovered the stolen key and a gas cylinder. Both detainees admitted their guilt. The 23-year-old faces a sentence of between three months and up to five years in prison. His older accomplice could be imprisoned for up to 10 years.
