These are strange and difficult times, especially for culture. Due to the fight against COVID-19, cultural events that audiences could attend in person are being cancelled, but the current regulations do not have to mean giving up artistic performances altogether. Thanks to a LIVE broadcast on the internet, we invite you to watch the visual and dance fairy tale “Slavic Souls. Now.” straight from the Old Theatre in Bolesławiec. Referring to the finest traditions of the legendary Monday Theatre TV, which broadcast theatre performances live, we want to give everyone interested the opportunity to take part in an exceptional artistic spectacle—almost as if they themselves were sitting in the audience during the performance.
The performance “Slavic Souls” is the result of a holiday project by the Młodzieżowy Dom Kultury Bolesławiec studios: the visual arts studio of Katarzyna Sas and the dance studio of Anna Leśniewska. The classes took place during the winter holidays in February 2020 and included three types of workshops: creation, batik and dance.
The central theme of all the activities was Slavic mythology, while in terms of visual art, the focus was on the paintings of Zofia Stryjeńska—a great advocate of the Slavic spirit in art. During the workshops, the participants created large-format batik compositions that served as the set design for the show, as well as costumes reflecting the character of each deity and dance études emphasizing the atmosphere of the fairy tale.
The set was created by a group of batik enthusiasts: Danuta Bednarska, Alicja Filip, Emilia Nebesna, Beata Jaśkiewicz, Barbara Lisowska, Łucja Mielczarek, Wioletta Nowierska, Ewa Wojciechowska, Jolanta Wójcik.
