Let us recall: in February this year, we reported that Bolesławiec’s largest hotel was awaiting modernization. Dariusz Sas, president of the management board of Hotel Piast, told us at the time that a retail and service gallery would be built, among other things, on Asnyka Street. The District Office approved the construction design and issued a permit to build Galeria Piast. However, the Municipal Commune appealed the decision.
The city authorities’ main objections were the insufficient number of parking spaces included in the construction design and sales floor space inconsistent with the spatial development plan (see our report: The city protests against the construction of the gallery).
The Municipal Commune’s appeal concerning Galeria Piast reached the voivodeship office on September 25 this year. It is already known that the voivode upheld the decision of the District Office. “I am starting construction because time is pressing,” says Dariusz Sas. “The planned opening date is November next year. I will do my best to meet it.”
Construction of Galeria Piast is to begin next week. The voivode’s decision is final and cannot be appealed through administrative proceedings. Nevertheless, the city authorities may challenge it before the Voivodeship Administrative Court.
Update: 2009-11-20 16:08
In a conversation with the IstotneInformacje.pl portal, Agnieszka Gergont, spokesperson for the Bolesławiec city authorities, said: “The mayor regrets that the voivode did not share his opinion regarding the number of parking spaces at Galeria Piast.”
For now, it is not known whether the Municipal Commune will challenge the voivodeship office’s decision. “The mayor has not yet made a decision on this matter,” the spokesperson added.
