As reported by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways:
The approximately 3.9-kilometre investment will be built under the government’s 2020–2030 Programme for the Construction of 100 Bypasses
An agreement to prepare the design documentation, worth more than PLN 1.4 million, was signed with IVIA of Katowice. The documentation is scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2024.
A joint GDDKiA investment
Road officials: “The Legnica bypass along DK94 will be implemented as a joint project of the Municipality of Legnica and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, based on an agreement concluded on 11 February 2020. This is related to the bypass running through the territory of both the city with county rights and the Municipality of Legnickie Pole. Therefore, the investment must be carried out simultaneously by the Municipality of Legnica and GDDKiA.
They add:
Only the implementation of all sections of Legnica’s eastern bypass in this way will ensure its proper functioning and achievement of the intended objective.
Under the agreement, GDDKiA will finance the design work for the approximately 2.8-kilometre section located outside Legnica’s boundaries, namely from Gniewomierska Street to Sikorskiego Street, while the section within the administrative boundaries of Legnica will be financed by the Municipality.
The investment includes the reconstruction of part of Gniewomierska Street, construction of the missing section of the Legnica bypass—from Gniewomierska Street to the intersection of Sikorskiego Street and Koskowicka Street, including construction of a viaduct over the railway tracks—and reconstruction of Sikorskiego Street from its intersection with Koskowicka Street to its intersection with Wrocławska Street.
What is the purpose of the investment?
GDDKiA:
The construction of the Legnica bypass will create an integrated national and international road network linking the A4, S3 (DK3) and DK94, bypassing Legnica city centre. Creating a comfortable and fast road connection between the A4, S3 and DK94 will have a positive impact on the economic development of the region and the Legnica Special Economic Zone.
It also emphasises:
Due to the poor conditions for travelling along national road No. 94 through Legnica, including through the city’s historic centre, construction of the missing section of the bypass—outside the area of the city with county rights—will enable proper connections between urbanised and industrialised areas and remove transit traffic from the city centre. This will significantly improve traffic conditions and road-user and resident safety.
When will the Legnica bypass be built?
The investment is planned to be carried out under the “Design and Build” formula in 2025–2029.
